Consultation Meeting for getting suggestion on township selection for Kayin State in which Community Driven Development Project will be implemented



For the Second Year of Community Driven Development Project which is being managed and implemented by the Department of Rural Development, the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development with supports from World Bank, meeting for "Consultation on township selection in Kayin State which will get benefit from the project" was celebrated at Kan Thar Oo Hall, Pha-an on 6 December 2013. Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development, Chief Minister of Kayin State and 300 participants including responsible people from concerned department in Kayin State, representatives from World Bank and responsible people from the Department of Rural Department (Head office) and responsible persons from NGOs and political parties, media and other invited parties attended the meeting.

Chief Minister of Kayin State delivered the speech at first and responsible person of the Department of Rural Development explained about the project briefly. Then the other activities were conducted viz. attendees asked their desired questions; the Department of Rural Development explained selection criteria; attendees conducted group discussion and submitted proposed township; officer in charge made group discussion; and the results were presented based on discussed facts. 

The three most priority townships to have the project implemented in Kayin State are Than Daung Township, Kya Inn Seik Kyi Township and Pha PonTownship according to the choice of the attendees. The townships lists would be submitted to Foreign Aids Management Central Committee after getting comments from the Chief Minister of Kayin State. If the Central Committee has confirmed, it will be submitted to World Bank to get recommendation for no objection with the list. If the list was confirmed step by step, Community Driven Development Project would be implemented.

This project is to enable poor rural communities in Myanmar to benefit from improved access and use of basic infrastructure and services through a people-centered approach.
