For the Second Year of Community
Driven Development Project which is being managed and implemented by the
Department of Rural Development, the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural
Development with supports from World Bank, meeting for "Consultation on
township selection in Sagaing Division which will get benefit from the
project" was celebrated at City Hall, Monywa on 30 Oct 2013. U Thar Aye (Prime
Minister of the Sagaing Division), U Tin Ngwe (Deputy Minister of the Ministry
of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development) and responsible people from
concerned department in Sagaing Division, Ms. Edith Bowies (Operations Officer)
from World Bank and responsible people from the Department of Rural Department
(Head office) and responsible people from NGOs and political parties, media and
other invited parties attended the meeting.
Prime Minister of Sagaing Division
delivered the speech at first and responsible person of the Department of Rural
Development explained about the project briefly. Then the other activities were
conducted viz. attendees asked their desired questions; the Department of Rural
Development explained selection criteria; attendees conducted group discussion
and submitted proposed township; officer in charge made group discussion; and
the results were presented based on discussed facts.
The three most priority townships
to have the project implemented in Sagaing Division are Pin Lal Buu Township, Myaung Township and
Van Mauk Township according to the choice of the attendees. The townships lists
would be submitted to Foreign Aids Management Central Committee after getting
comments from the Prime Minister of Sagaing Division. If the Central Committee
has confirmed, it will be submitted to World Bank to get recommendation for no
objection with the list. If the list was confirmed step by step, Community
Driven Development Project would be implemented.
This project is to enable poor
rural communities in Myanmar to benefit from improved access and use of basic
infrastructure and services through a people-centered approach.
Project will be implemented in
total 15 towns including each township of 7 States and 7 Divisions and Nay Pyi
Taw Council Area in which the Government Offices are settled.
For the first year of the project
(2013-2014), the projects are being implemented in Nansam Township (Shan State
(North)), Kanpatlet Township (Chin State) and Kyun Su Township in Tanintharyee
Division. For the second year, the project will be implemented in Sagaing
Division, Magway Division, Ayeyarwaddy Division, Kayin State and Rakhine State.
